Suspect Due In Court In Deadly Inglewood Hit-And-Run Crash

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The suspected driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman who had just placed her cousin's child in a car seat is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Jesus Cazares, 38, was booked on felony hit-and-run charges by Inglewood police after turning himself in Sunday, according to authorities. Cazares is being held on $50,000 bail at Inglewood jail.

The crash happened about 10 p.m. Saturday on Oak Street between Nectarine and Olive streets. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Elisa Alvarez, was thrown 30 feet after being struck by a red or burgundy, older model Ford F-150 pick-up truck. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Alvarez was leaving a birthday party for a family member and was talking to the infant's mother when she was struck. The infant's grandmother, Alvarez's aunt, was distraught by the crash, she was also hospitalized.

Alvarez's son, Crystyan Fernandez, set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his mother's medical and funeral costs.
