Board Of Supervisors Supports Bid For LA To Host 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The push to bring the U.S. trials for the 2016 Olympic marathon to Los Angeles now has the support of the county Board of Supervisors behind it.

A bid was submitted to USA Track & Field officials by LA Marathon LLC to host the trials to select three men and three women to compete for the United States team in the 2016 Summer Olympics, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

The trials are scheduled to be held on March 12, 2016, the day before the LA Marathon.

The planned route would pass Dodger Stadium, LA Live, the Coliseum, and other Hollywood landmarks, according to Supervisor Mark Ridley, who recommended support for the bid.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, along with three-time Olympian marathon runner Deena Kastor, have already expressed heavy support for the bid, which some are considering a precursor to Los Angeles' hopes of hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics.
