3 Generations Of Family Killed In Mira Loma Wreck; 4 Others Injured

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say two adults and a child were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Mira Loma on Saturday night.

Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said four others sustained major injuries in the 9:59 p.m. crash at Limonite Avenue and Bain Street.

"The Incident Commander reported a total of seven patients -- three perished at the scene," Hendrickson said.

The three who died were three generations of one Norwalk family.

The deceased were identified as grandmother Maria Contreras de Mendez, 62; Elizabeth Mendez, 33 and her 8-year-old daughter, also named Elizabeth.

The injured are Jose Mendez, son of the eldest victim and wife to Elizabeth, the couple's other daughter and Jose's father. The three injured are listed in stable condition.

Officials said there were six people in the Mendez car.

The condition of the other driver, the sole occupant of his vehicle, was unknown.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
