4 Suffer Second Degree Burns In Compton Garage Fire

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — An early morning fire in Compton left four people with second degree burns.

The fire broke out in a detached garage in the 600 block of S. Bullis Road just after 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Jesus Fernandez told KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou that it was seconds away from spreading into a 60-foot tree, which could have sent embers in every direction.

The four victims were rushed to an area hospital for treatment of second degree burns.

Deputies were expected to remain on the scene well into the morning to investigate.

"We're holding the scene until Compton Fire arson investigators respond and investigate further," Fernandez said.

Investigators said the fire may have started in a carport behind the garage.
