Doctors' Notes, X-Rays Up For Auction Reveal Marilyn Monroe Underwent Cosmetic Surgery

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — An auction house has obtained doctors' notes and X-rays that reveal Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe underwent cosmetic surgery.

The set of six X-rays and a file of physicians' notes, which will be up for sale at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills in November, offer Monroe's partial medical history from the 1950s and early '60s.

Dr. Jay Calvert, a board certified plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty expert for the ROX Center in Beverly Hills, said he's surprised the actress had a chin augmentation and underwent cosmetic surgery to her nose during Hollywood's golden era.

"She was always seen as a natural beauty and this is a big surprise to me," he said. "She was willing to have plastic surgery to really enhance her looks. There were just much greater risks with the procedures. It just shows her spirit in really wanting to be the best at what she did."

CBS2's Suraya Fadel reported that the medical files are expected to garner bids from $15,000 to $30,000.

"For the avid Marilyn Monroe fan, this a real chance to get closer to the starlet. So I'm sure there will be plenty of buyers for these items," said Calvert.
