33-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck By Buena Park Police Cruiser Identified

BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) — The woman who was fatally struck by a Buena Park police cruiser on Saturday morning has been identified, authorities said.

Sunday evening, officials identified the woman as 33-year-old Katherine Tinnell.

A Buena Park police watch commander told City News Service that the crash on Orangethorpe Avenue near Stanton Avenue was reported at 1:09 a.m.

Witnesses said Tinnell was struck by a marked K-9 unit. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol's Westminster office is handling the investigation.

Buena Park Police said it was their first ever fatal accident involving a patrol car and a pedestrian.
