Vehicles Catch Fire After Big Rig Crashes Into CarMax Lot Near Oxnard

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A big rig Saturday careened off a freeway off-ramp and crashed into a car dealership near Oxnard where ten vehicles caught fire.

The accident happened near Rose Avenue at a CarMax lot in the 2000 block of Lockwood Street.

The truck was hauling Bounty® paper products when it veered off the southbound 101 Freeway for reasons unknown, according to CBS2's Joy Benedict.

After landing on the edge of the lot, the truck set about ten vehicles ablaze and damaged a total of 16 cars. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire.

Authorities said the driver of the semi-truck was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.

It's not yet known whether wind in the area played a role in causing the crash but firefighters said they were looking at it as a possible factor.

No further information was immediately available.
