Family Of Fontana Hit-And-Run Victim Reaches Out To Public

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — The family of a 46-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run in Fontana reached out to the public Tuesday to help locate the suspect.

Maria Chagolla-Barriga was struck around 10:10 p.m. on Aug. 24 in an eastbound lane of Slover Avenue near Mulberry Avenue in an unincorporated area of Fontana. She attended a party in the area and came out to the street to give directions to a friend on the phone when the accident happened.

The victim was transported to Kaiser Foundation Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver fled the scene.

"I was her baby. You know, she took care of us. She loved us," said Chagolla-Barriga's daughter, Maribel Rivera. "You guys can just imagine how hard it is for us, going through this, and you know, losing my mom, our mom, my dad's wife."

"She was always so positive; there was nothing you could do that would upset her. She would be mad at us one minute and the next, it would be okay, like nothing ever happened," she added.

The family is offering a $5,000 reward out of their own pockets for any tips that lead to a suspect's arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the CHP at (909) 980-3994.
