3 Nabbed In Connection With Car Burglaries In Parking Lot Of Thousand Oaks Gym

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Three suspects have been arrested in connection with at least two vehicle burglaries in the parking lot of a Thousand Oaks' 24 Hour Fitness gym.

A statement issued by the Ventura County Sheriff's office says the first theft occurred about five weeks ago at the gym located in the 2500 Block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

Authorities said the victim had left his vehicle unlocked with his wallet in the center console. When he returned, he received a call from his bank regarding charges of more than $5,100 on two missing credit cards.

The victim of the second theft, which occurred about three weeks ago, also left her vehicle unlocked with her purse inside. When she returned, she too had found that several of her credit cards were missing.

"After talking with her credit card companies, the victim saw that the suspects had attempted to use her credit cards at multiple locations totaling over $5,000," the statement said.

Authorities said the suspects were arrested Saturday after detectives observed a vehicle they deemed "suspicious" driving through the parking lot of a 24 Hour Fitness gym.

"The occupants were seen trying door handles to a few vehicles and then entering a vehicle," the statement said.

The suspects were subsequently taken into custody following a traffic stop. They were booked into East County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

The statement said that investigators believe they may be responsible for several other recent burglaries, thefts, and fraudulent use of credit cards.
