Elderly Man Drives Vehicle 50 Feet Into Glendale Jewelry Store

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — An elderly man Wednesday drove his car 50 feet into a jewelry store in Glendale.

Fire officials responded at 12:31 p.m. to the Arka Bijouterie jewelry store in the 300 block of N. Brand Boulevard.

The 83-year-old driver hit the accelerator of his Honda Accord rather than the brakes and plunged into the building, police said.

Elderly Man Crashes Into Glendale Jewelry Store

The owner of the store, Arbin Davtyan, told KNX1070's Ed Mertz the vehicle came crashing in right after he said goodbye to a customer.

The car took out several jewelry display cabinets and scattered the diamonds, rings and other valuables in a trail of glass.

"I'm still in shock... I still can't believe it.

"My body's kinda weak still," Davtyan said.

A passenger in the vehicle was treated for neck pain.
