Deputy-Involved Shooting Reported In Mid-City

MID-CITY (CBSLA.com) — A deputy-involved shooting was reported near La Brea Avenue and Venice Boulevard Wednesday afternoon, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting occurred just before 4 p.m. in the 1700 block of S. Burnside.

A suspect was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. No deputies were injured.

Officials said the deputies were responding to a Burnside address in search of a felony suspect.

The deputies reportedly encountered a man who matched the suspect's description.

Authorities said the suspect reached into his waistband area and removed several objects, including narcotics, and a black object he held in his hand.

Believing the man was armed, deputies said they shot at the man. The suspect ran to the rear of the residence, climbed a wall and, with deputies in pursuit, got into a kneeling position holding the black object.

Deputies said they feared the man was about to shoot them, so they fired their weapons at the suspect.

Officials later determined the man was holding a cell phone.
