1 Dead, 4 Injured In Santa Ana 2-Car Crash

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — An elderly woman was killed and four others were injured Tuesday in a two-car collision in Orange County, officials said.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. at the intersection of 1st and Sullivan streets in Santa Ana, police said.

The driver of a blue/green Nissan ran a red light and collided with an Infiniti, according to witnesses.

"Based on the witness statements, the female 22-year-old who was eastbound had a steady green so she was obviously traveling at the speed limit or plus, and the southbound vehicle, I don't know what he was traveling, but he ran the steady red," Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The passenger in the front seat of the Nissan, a 78-year-old woman, was killed instantly, Santa Ana police said.

The two backseat passengers were transported in critical condition.

Two other victims were transported in unknown condition.
