Pilot Escapes Injury After Single-Engine Plane Crash At Long Beach Airport

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A small single-engine plane crashed just off the runway on a departure from Long Beach Airport today.

The pilot said he lost power as he was conducting "touch and go" operations at approximately 200 feet in the air when the incident occurred at 1:20 p.m., according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

The plane coasted to a landing and stopped approximately 100 feet before the airport fence line, sustaining a low impact crash with moderate damage noted to the aircraft.

The pilot was the sole occupant and was not injured.

Long Beach Aircraft, Rescue, Firefighting Units from Fire Station 16 responded to the incident within one minute.

The Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Airport Police and Long Beach Airport Operations assisted Long Beach ARFF units throughout the incident.
