HACIENDA HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A 43-year-old man has been arrested in the death of his mother, who was found dead in the trunk of her vehicle, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

Clifton Huang was arrested Thursday after he was questioned in the murder of 66-year-old Vilma Chau.

Chau was found dead with her hands and feet bound in the trunk of a vehicle parked at her Hacienda Heights home, located in the 1500 block of Las Tunas Drive.

Her body was discovered after deputies went to the residence on a welfare check and detected a strong odor coming from the garage.

Huang was booked Thursday at the Industry Sheriff’s station for murder and is being held on $2 million bond.

The motive and the circumstances surrounding Chau’s death were still under investigation.
