LA County Fair Opens In Pomona

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County Fair will kick off Friday afternoon at the Fairplex in Pomona.

The gates open at 3 p.m. with $1 admission through 6 p.m., as well as other deals on food, rides and games throughout the night.

Aside from traditional rides, the 2013 fair features new exhibits, including an Underwater Adventure with sea lions, sharks and even a mermaid; space explorations with the world's largest Star Trek exhibit; and Pixar, Disney, Sony DreamWorks and the Chuck Jones Estate coming together for the "Pencils 2 Pixels" animation exhibit.

Visitors can also indulge in Krispy Kreme sloppy joes, deep-fried bacon wrapped pickles, giant BBQ ribs, and ethnic specialties from Thailand, Latin America and around the world.

Grandstand concerts include Demi Lovato, The Jacksons, Trace Adkins, Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys and The Bangles.

The fair, which has been a tradition in LA County for more than 90 years, runs Aug. 30 through Sept. 29.

It will be open through Labor Day, but closed on Mondays and Tuesdays thereafter.
