Port Truck Drivers Continue 24-Hour Strike Over Effort To Unionize

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — Some Los Angeles and Long Beach truck drivers continued a 24-hour strike Monday over an effort to unionize.

More than a dozen drivers with Green Fleet Systems were protesting outside of the company's warehouse over unfair labor practices.

In a complaint filed with the National Labor Relations Board, drivers allege the company broke federal labor laws with its alleged anti-union actions.

Truckers maintain that company supervisors have been illegally dissuading them from joining a union.

"They've pressured some workers to sign a petition that's anti-union," driver Ramon Sadamuz said.

Sadamuz also alleges that Green Fleet Systems would fire workers who spoke with union representatives.

Green Fleet Systems denies the allegations and in published reports, its attorney said the ralliers are trying to divide and conquer trucking companies and make false accusations that the majority of drivers want union representation.

The strike was scheduled to end at 4 p.m. with a rally featuring local elected officials and business leaders.
