'Girls Gone Wild' Creator Sentenced To Jail For Assaulting Woman

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Joe Francis, the creator of the "Girls Gone Wild" video series, Tuesday was sentenced to jail for assaulting a woman at his Bel Air mansion in 2011.

KNX 1070's Megan Goldsby reports Francis, 40, was sentenced to 270 days in jail and three years probation.

In addition to jail time, Francis was also ordered to complete an anger management course and undergo a year of psychological counseling.

Francis was convicted in May of three counts of false imprisonment, one count of assault causing great bodily injury and one count of dissuading a witness in connection with the Jan. 29, 2011, incident.

According to prosecutors, Francis took three women he met while attending a college graduation party at the Supperclub in Hollywood to his house, where he grabbed one of the women by the throat and hair and slammed her head onto the floor.

Deputy City Attorney Mitch Fox said Francis told the women not to contact authorities, but the victims called 911 after they left the residence.

Fox said prosecutors had initially asked for Francis to serve four years behind bars.

"Mr. Francis is really a danger to the community," said Fox. "He's had his way with ability to force people to comply with his wishes, he physically has been violent with people."

Francis was taken into custody to be booked, but attorney's Steve Leveen said Francis was released on $250,000 bond until after the appeal process.
