Widow Asks Public For Help Finding Missing Parrot That Speaks In Late Husband's Voice

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (CBSLA.com) — A San Juan Capistrano woman is asking the public for help finding her beloved African gray parrot.

Karen McIntyre said the bird's absence is like losing a member of the family, in part because he spoke in her late husband's voice.

"My husband passed away three years ago, and he still uses my husband's voice to tell the dogs to be quiet, and he calls my son Patrick, or he calls my daughter Erin," said McIntyre."He picks up the phone and makes telephone calls in my husband's voice."

October the parrot flew away from the family's backyard on July 15. McIntyre didn't think he would go far because he has flown away in the past, but after weeks of posting signs and searching online, she remains unable to find her pet of 20 years.

McIntyre first found October underneath a car on her street 20 years ago, when he had flown away from his original home about a half mile away. It took the McIntyres more than three months to find his original owners.

When October was returned to his family, Karen McIntyre asked his owners to please think of them if they ever needed to find a new home for the bird.

About a year later, October and a second bird named Pip came to live with the McIntyre family.

If anyone has seen October, they are asked to email his family.
