Couple Welcomes New Baby Months After Losing Only Child To High Speed Pursuit Driver

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Almost a year after losing their only child to a driver in a high speed pursuit, a Lancaster family is celebrating the birth of a baby girl.

Tina and Michael Ruano lost their 2-year old daughter, Madison after investigators said a high speed pursuit suspect sped through a red light.

"I am very fortunate and lucky that we had another one this soon," mother Tina Ruano said. "She really is healing a lot of hearts in our family. There is a lot of brokenness still."

Barely nine months later, the family welcomed Addilyn Rose, born at 5 lbs, 11 ounces.

"It is nice having another little girl," Tina said. "I know he really wanted a boy but I needed a girl back. I just wanted what I felt was taken from us."

While acknowledging that another baby doesn't change what happened, the couple admitted that she does help with the pain.

"It doesn't take away the pain, but it does shift your focus," Tina said.

The high speed pursuit suspect's trial is expected to start in October. The Ruanos reportedly plan on attending the court proceedings.
