Arsonist Sought In 3 Eastern Orange County Fires

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Tuesday were trying to locate the person responsible for setting a series of fires this week in eastern Orange County.

Between noon and 3:45 p.m. Monday, fires were intentionally set on Viewrim Drive in Anaheim Hills, Cooper Canyon Road in Yorba Linda and Weir Canyon Road in Anaheim Hills, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

Police believe all three blazes were set by the same person.

"They seem to be close in proximity of time, as well as location, but we can't rule out there are multiple people out there or copycats," Sgt. Bob Dunn said.

A person of interest was seen near one of the fires, but was questioned and released.

"At this point now that our person of interest was located and we've spoken to that individual, and ruled him out, we're back to looking for whoever the suspect or suspects were who set these fires," said Dunn. "There is a possibility there are multiple people involved. However, all we know at this point are these fires are intentionally set and the danger level is very high."

Anyone with information on the crimes should contact Orange County Crimestoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
