Man With Knife Fatally Shot By Redondo Police After Allegedly Assaulting Elderly Mom

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The death of a South Bay man was under investigation Friday after he allegedly assaulted his elderly mother and confronted officers with a knife.

Mitchell Allison, 43, died early Friday morning at Harbor General Hospital following an incident at a home in the 500 block of Susana Avenue, the Redondo Beach Police Department said.

Authorities were dispatched to the residence around 11:15 p.m. Thursday on a report of a woman, identified as Allison's mother, screaming.

"The victim was seen being dragged into a residence by a male suspect," Cpt. Jeff Hink said. "Arriving officers located an elderly female victim outside of the residence, who appeared to be the victim of an assault."

Officers located Allison inside the home, near the front door and ordered him to surrender.

Allison reportedly refused to comply with officers, who then forced open the front door of the home.

"The suspect armed himself with a knife, and an officer-involved shooting occurred," Cpt. Hink said.

Allison was transported to the hospital, where he died.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by Redondo Beach police, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's Office.
