Man Tries To Kidnap Girl, Force Her Into Car's Trunk In Wilmington

WILMINGTON (CBSLA.com) — A man tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl and force her into the trunk of his car in the Wilmington area on Wednesday.

Authorities said the suspect followed the victim from the area of Avalon Boulevard and L Street around 9 a.m.

Once the girl reached the 1100 block of Marine Avenue, the man grabbed the victim and tried to throw her into his trunk.

The child, however, fought him off and was able to run to a nearby home.

Police described the suspect as Hispanic, about 50 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 180 pounds, with gray/black hair.

He is believed to be driving a late 80s to early 90s two-door white import vehicle. The car has black bumpers, a faded hood and possible damage to the passenger side fender.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to contact LAPD Harbor Area detectives at (310) 726-7860.
