50 Cent Pleads Not Guilty To Domestic Violence Charges

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Rapper 50 Cent pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, is charged with one count of domestic violence and four counts of vandalism stemming from a June 23 incident in Toluca Lake.

The alleged victim, model Daphne Joy, says the argument with the rapper got so heated that when she locked herself in the bathroom, Jackson kicked in a door and subsequently kicked her.

Prosecutors allege Jackson caused an estimated $7,100 in damage and left the model's home before police arrived.

Jackson's attorney said the singer denies the accusations and has been in contact with the City Attorney's office to conduct his own investigation. His attorney also pointed out that Curtis has not been arrested.

The pair have a child together.

If convicted, Jackson faces up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.

He is due back in court on Sept. 4 for a pretrial hearing.
