3 Face Cruelty To Children Charges After Reportedly Locking 2 Minors In Trunk of Car

HIGHLAND (CBSLA.com) — Three adults Monday were facing charges of cruelty to children after two minors under the age of 10 were found locked in the trunk of a car.

April Burgo, 32, Richard Burgo, 29, and 33-year-old Brandon Rampani were arrested Sunday night in Highland, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

According to authorities, someone had called 911 to report that they had seen a child in the trunk of a black Cadillac in the area of Baseline Street and Palm Avenue.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and found that the driver, April Brugo, and her two passengers were under the influence of alcohol.

"Deputies asked April to open the trunk of the vehicle and she hesitated," Sgt. Eddie Gonzalez said. "When the trunk of the vehicle was opened, a 6-year-old male and 8-year-old female  were found lying inside the trunk crying."

Authorities believed that all three suspects, including the children's father, Richard Burgo, knew the kids were locked in the trunk.

All three suspects were booked at the Central Detention Center and have since been released from custody.
