San Bernardino Police Officer Leaves Hospital After Traffic Stop Ambush

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A San Bernardino police officer was recovering Saturday morning after allegedly being ambushed by four suspects during a traffic stop.

The incident occurred near Fame Liquor on E. Baseline Street and Sierra Way about 9:12 p.m. Friday.

That's where authorities say two officers tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation.

As the officers approached, police say two suspects flung open the car's doors and opened fire. The officers returned fire.

CBS2's Tom Wait reports that the shoot-out continued on foot as the suspects allegedly attempted to flee.

Two of the suspects and an officer were struck by gunfire.

All were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening wounds. No bystanders were hurt.

Police said the unidentified officer, whose served on the force for more than five years, was released from the hospital on Saturday.

Two suspects were still at large.

Two guns were recovered at the scene, according to authorities.
