34-Year-Old Woman In Grave Condition After Police Cruiser Slams Into Car

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) —  A woman is hospitalized in grave condition after a Hawthorne police cruiser slammed into her car Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. in the 3700 block of El Segundo Boulevard in Hawthorne.

Thirty-four-year-old Karina Preza was on the way to pick her husband up from work when it happened.

She was ejected from the car, causing life-threatening injuries.

Her family has been at her bedside all day.

They tell CBS2/KCAL9 News they're desperate for more details about the crash.

"I miss my mom and I don't really know what happened in the morning," the victim's son, Carlos Cerna, Jr., said.

"We want justice... and there's a lot of unanswered questions that we need to know," Preza's cousin, Armando Piril, added.

It's still unclear what caused the collision.

Hawthorne police are investigating.

The officer in the crash is believed to have suffered minor injuries.
