Arraignment Postponed For '50 Cent' In Assault Case

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The arraignment for rapper 50 Cent, who is charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend, was postponed Monday.

The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, faces one count of domestic violence and four counts of vandalism stemming from a June 23 incident in Toluca Lake.

The arraignment is now scheduled for Aug. 5.

The alleged victim, model Daphne Joy, says the argument with the rapper got so heated that when she locked herself in the bathroom, Jackson kicked in a door and kicked her.

Prosecutors allege Jackson caused an estimated $7,100 in damage and left the model's home before police arrived.

Jackson's attorney said the singer denies the accusations and they have been in contact with the City Attorney's office to conduct their own investigation. His attorney also pointed out that Curtis has not been arrested.

The couple have a child together.

If convicted, Jackson faces up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.
