'Haven Collective' Pastry Chef, Mixologist Share Tips For Cooking With Mangos

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Pastry chef Santanna Salas and mixologist Chris Martinez of Haven Collective visited KCAL9 Tuesday to show viewers different ways to cook with mangos.

They made a mango and prosciutto appetizer, a mango lounger cocktail and a mango meringue pie.

Mangos are the most popular fruit in the world and were first cultivated in India more than 5,000 years ago. In many Latin American countries, the fruit is enjoyed on a stick with its skin peeled back.

A one-cup serving of mango is just 100 calories and provides 100 percent of a person's daily vitamin C intake. The fruit is also high in fiber and Vitamin A.

Mangos can be enjoyed with salt, lime juice or chili powder and are the perfect addition to marinade recipes. They are also great in smoothies, salads, salsas, chutneys, or on fish, chicken or pork.
