Sugarloaf Teens Arrested In Alleged Abuse Of 22-Month-Old Daughter

SUGARLOAF (CBSLA.com) — Two San Bernardino County teenage parents have been arrested for the alleged abuse of their 22-month-old daughter, officials said Thursday.

Aaron Wayne Degrise, 18, and his 17-year-old girlfriend were arrested on July 9, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Earlier that day, deputies from the Big Bear sheriff's station responded to Bear Valley Hospital regarding a toddler with injuries to her head and body.

The little girl was transported to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital for further treatment.

"Medical examinations performed by Forensic Pediatricians at LLUCH revealed that the victim had extensive injuries suspected of being caused by abuse," Sgt. Roberto Lomeli said in a statement.

The alleged crimes took place in the 800 block of Sunset Lane in Sugarloaf, according to investigators.

Following an investigation, Degrise was arrested for torture and assault on a child causing a coma. His bail was set at $500,000.

Degrise's underage girlfriend was arrested and booked at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall on charges of willfully causing or permitting a child to be injured. The unidentified teen was being held without bail due to her age.

The condition of the child was unknown.
