Body Found At Manhattan Beach Park

MANHATTAN BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A body was found Thursday afternoon at a composting station at a public park in Manhattan Beach.

The remains, which were in a pile of fertilizer, were discovered by city workers at 3:30 p.m. at Polliwog Park in the 1500 block of North Peck Avenue.

The unidentified victim's body was wrapped in some sort of pink material, reported KCAL9's Juan Fernandez.

Investigators believe the person was killed at another location before being brought to Manhattan Beach.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were sent to assist in the investigation.

"We'll document the scene. We'll do as much as we can during the daylight hours. Later in the evening, the coroner will be called and they will remove the body intact as it is. They'll take it to the coroner's office where we can carefully take the materials off the body and investigate further," said Lt. Dave Coleman.

Residents spoke out about the unsettling situation.

"I live right down the street. It was shocking that a body was found," said Susan Swerdloff.

"It's really shocking to hear about that in the area. Especially where your kids are always around, playing, and you let them go out and walk," said Belen Flores.

"I think I was really surprised. Surprised that it was out in the open and undetected," said Barbara Hedges.
