Woman Sues Psychic Reader After Paying Almost $11K To Lift Love Curse

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  A North Hollywood woman has filed suit against her former psychic reader, claiming she was conned out of nearly $11,000 when the medium failed to deliver on promises to lift a curse on her love life.

Klarissa Castro filed the lawsuit against Jennifer Williams in Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday, alleging fraud and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, according to City News Service.

The suit also names Williams' company, Psychic Readings By Yana, on S. Bundy Dr. near Exposition Blvd. in West L.A.

Castro claims she first met Williams at the place of business in August 2010.

The defendant allegedly told Castro there was "a curse placed upon her" which was preventing her from having "true, meaningful, loving relationships in her life."

According to the lawsuit, Williams said she could lift the curse.

The plaintiff proceeded to pay the money over a series of sessions to have it removed, she claims.

During those sessions, Castro was allegedly instructed to buy gift cards, special candles blessed by Williams and other items meant to symbolize the love between the woman and her boyfriend.

The suit claims in June 2011 Castro spent $5,020 to commission a painting Williams said would help to lift the curse and bring her closer to her significant other.

According to the filings, the painting was never delivered.

The plaintiff said she saw Williams for approximately two years and was "emotionally vulnerable" at the time.

Williams has yet to offer comment on the filing.
