Shark Spotted In Waters Off Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH (CBSLA.com) — At least one shark was spotted in the South Bay Tuesday, officials said.

Swimmers were cleared from the water off Manhattan Beach Tuesday evening after a Los Angeles County Sheriff's patrol helicopter spotted a shark near shore, KNX 1070's Jon Baird reported.

Manhattan Beach police also received a call from someone reporting that they had seen three sharks.

A lifeguard boat patrolling the waters spotted a four-foot shark, but officials were not able to determine what kind.

County lifeguards downplayed the incident, Baird reported.

In September and October of last year, three great white sharks were caught by fishermen off the Manhattan Beach pier.
