Rapper 50 Cent Responds To Domestic Violence Charges On Social Media

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Rapper 50 Cent reacted publicly Thursday for the first time since he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend in her Toluca Lake home.

The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was charged with one count of domestic violence and four counts of vandalism stemming from an incident June 23.

The alleged victim says the argument with the rapper got so heated that when she locked herself in the bathroom, Jackson kicked in a door and kicked her, injuring her.

Prosecutors allege Jackson caused an estimated $7,100 in damage and left the scene before police arrived.

Jackson's attorney said the singer denies the accusations and they have been in contact with the City Attorney's office to conduct their own investigation. His attorney also pointed out that Curtis has not been arrested.

Since Thursday, the rapper has posted photos of himself lounging around his home on social media to prove that he is not in jail.

CNN identifies the woman involved in the alleged incident as Daphne Joy, an actress and model who has a baby with the singer.

Joy appeared in the movie "Pirates of the Carribbean: On Stranger Tides" and had other roles on several television shows.

Her lawyers say she and Jackson have been together for a few years in an exclusive relationship.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.

Jackson is due in court for an arraignment July 22.
