Driver Dies After Tractor Crashes Into Water At Terminal Island

TERMINAL ISLAND (CBSLA.com) — The driver of a utility tractor, which was pulling a trailer, was killed Monday after the vehicle plunged into the water at the Port of Los Angeles.

The incident happened at 3 p.m. near the Evergreen Container Terminal, according to Sky9's Gil Leyvas.

Los Angeles City Fire Department rescue divers, battling near-zero visibility, found the man at 60 feet below the surface.

Although crews were able to bring the victim aboard a fire boat, he succumbed to his injuries.

A firefighter diver suffered a non-life-threatening injury during the rescue and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing.
