'Asian Wig Bandit' Wanted For 15 Robberies Across SoCal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Monday asked for the public's help in identifying a man wanted for a series of robberies at SoCal businesses since December 2012.

The "Asian Wig Bandit" is believed to be responsible for 15 incidents targeting remittance companies that specialize in money transfers to the Philippines, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"The suspect walks into a business disguised as a female wearing a wig and sunglasses, and as he approaches the employees, he pulls out a handgun, orders them to the ground and demands money and jewelry," Det. Freddy Arroyo said.

The robberies have occurred in Los Angeles, Glendale, West Covina, Rancho Cucamonga and Chula Vista.

The suspect has also been seen in the San Jose area near the same type of businesses, Arroyo said.

He is described as an Asian male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 to 180 pounds. He wears a blond or black shoulder-length wig during the crimes.

The suspect has been seen driving a beige or light-colored BMW SUV.

The Ccty of Los Angeles is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the identity, arrest and prosecution of the "Asian Wig Bandit".

"I want this bandit identified, caught, and convicted before his crimes escalate," Mayor Eric Garcetti said.

Anyone with information should contact Robbery Homicide Division Detectives Freddy Arroyo or Daniel Jaramillo at (213)486-6840.
