Suspect Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Pacoima

PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Sunday said a suspect was shot and killed by police in Pacoima.

Los Angeles police Cmdr. Andrew Smith told KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta that the suspect died following the officer-involved shooting in the 12700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard.

The LAPD said that the suspect initially shot at police who returned fire Sunday just before noon. Some of the shootout was captured on cell phone video.

They also said the suspect -- after being shot --  raced into a Little Caesars -- where he shot another man. It was unclear if the suspect was acquainted with the gunman or whether that shooting was random. There were also unconfirmed reports that the shooting victim was wounded before the suspect got into the firefight with police.

The victim of that shooting was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Art Barron, reporting for CBS2, said the unidentified suspect ended dying in the middle of the street after he wouldn't drop his weapon.

"They told him, 'Drop the gun, drop the gun,' but he refused and then he started shooting at them. Then the cops shot him," said witness Frank Gomez. "They were just defending their life."

No officers were injured.
