Suspect Wanted In Park Shooting, Theft

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives sought the public's help Wednesday in identifying a robbery and assault suspect who shot a man at a Los Angeles park.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jesse Owens Community Regional Park, 9651 S. Western Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The victim was sitting in his car in the parking lot when the suspect approached him on a bicycle and asked a question.

The suspect then "reached into the vehicle and grabbed the victim's cell phone. The victim then struggled with the suspect for the cell phone. During the struggle the suspect shot the victim," Paul Schrader of the LASD's Parks Bureau said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition, according to officials.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene on his bike with the victim's cell phone.

"The suspect is described as an 18 year-old male black, 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with short braids. He was wearing a white tank top and black shorts," Schrader said.

Anyone with information on the suspect should contact Parks Bureau detectives at (661) 294-3544.
