Probe Continues Following Deadly Shooting In Redondo Beach

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday continued to investigate a deadly shooting in Redondo Beach.

The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. Friday in the 2400 block of Ralston Lane.

Upon arriving on scene, officers found a man lying in front of a home.

The man, now identified as Bobby Reynolds, was treated at the scene and subsequently taken to Harbor General Hospital where he died.

Authorities said Reynolds, 38, is a husband, father and resident of Gardena.

At a 5 p.m. news conference Saturday, police announced they were looking for a person of interest named Erick Julian Ortega, 27.

Ortega is 5 foot 6 inches, 160 pounds and heavily tattooed around the head and neck. (The tattoos include: a marijuana leaf on his right arm; a naked woman on his right shoulder; HA on his head; Padre Pardon Me, a cross, Redondo Beach, Father Forgive Me on his chest; Bitch Please on his neck; Redondo how do you want it on his abdomen and a clown on his left shoulder.)

"The police I think pretty much think it was a drive-by," said Joe Mahanke, a neighbor. "But it was just four quick shots and they hauled off a young man. His mother was quite distraught. She was out there … she was out there yelling, 'That's my son'."

Police believe the victim was targeted. They said he was shot "in cold blood and several times."

Witnesses said the gunman fled in a Chrysler 300 reportedly registered to Ortega, a South Bay native. Officials said he had prior arrests for drug and robbery offenses.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Redondo Beach Police Department at (310) 379-2477.
