VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — A suspect who was shot by Ventura County Sheriff's deputies after he rammed his vehicle into a sheriff's patrol unit and tried to run over a deputy last weekend has been released from the hospital and was in police custody Friday.

Rogelio Gutierrez, 33, of Gilroy, Calif., had been treated at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center after he was injured in a pursuit that ended shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday near Agoura and Lake View Canyon roads in Westlake Village.

Authorities said the chase started when the suspect vehicle failed to yield, fleeing east in the westbound lanes of Agoura Road.

"The vehicle sped through a shopping center trying to get away from the deputy," Ventura County Sheriff's Sgt. Eric Buschow told KNX 1070.

The deputies were uninjured.

Gutierrez was booked late Wednesday at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura upon his release from the hospital on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, evading an officer, and reckless driving.

Gutierrez bail was set at $1 million. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 21 in Ventura.
