Manhunt Continues For Suspect Who Allegedly Murdered Estranged Wife

WEST HILLS (CBSLA.com) — The manhunt continued Sunday for a man police say tracked down his estranged wife and stabbed her to death outside a friend's home.

Authorities say Michael Rodney Kane, 46, stabbed the mother of his two children Saturday in West Hills.

The fatal stabbing occurred about 7:30 a.m. in the 7100 block of Deveron Ridge Road.

The victim --  identified as 43-year-old Michelle Kane -- was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

KCAL9's Bobby Kaple spoke to stunned neighbors who lived near the Kanes. They described the couple as always fighting.

The day before the murder, neighbors say Kane showed up at his wife's Canoga Park townhouse and busted out the windows to the garage and the front door.

That action prompted Michelle Kane to seek a restraining order. The violent act also led Michelle to take the couple's two young children to the friend's house.

Police say Michael Kane found out where Michelle was staying, forced his way into the home and confronted her.

When she tried to flee, he allegedly stabbed her in the street.

Kane was last seen driving a 1999 Chrysler 300M with California plates 4HGP487.

The couple's children -- a 2-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl -- are safe and staying with relatives.

Police urged anyone with information to contact LAPD Topanga Homicide Detectives at (818) 756-3360.
