Classic Car Show To Benefit Children's Hospital Of Orange County

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Andrew Alcazar visited KCAL9 Thursday to talk about the upcoming Russo and Steele Classic Car Show taking place in Newport Beach.

More than 350 European sports, American muscle, hot rod and custom cars will be auctioned off at the event, which benefits the Children's Hospital of Orange County.

The event will take place at the Newport Dunes from June 20 to June 22.

CHOC will also be throwing a charity bash to kick off the festivities on Thursday, June 20, with dinner, dancing and a live auction. Tickets are $150 each.

Over the weekend (June 21 & 22), the show opens at 10 a.m. with bidding starting at noon. While general admission tickets are $20, those interested in bidding will pay $150.

Among the rarities available at previous auctions (an indicator as to the quality of vehicles that will be for auction):

    • 1958 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster – sold for $727,100
    • 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe – sold for $605,000
    • 1969 Chevrolet Douglass Yenko Comaro Coupe – sold for $253,000
    • 1940 Packard Darrin Convertible Custom – sold for $242,000

Among the cars to be featured at the Dunes' show are a rare 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster, one of only 225 remaining in the world and most-recently owned by Grammy-winning country star Alan Jackson, and the rarely seen AA/FD Top Fuel Dragster driven by George "The Stone Age Man" Hutcheson.
