UCLA Students Warned Of Attempted Hot Prowl Burglaries On Campus

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Campus police are warning UCLA students about two recent hot prowl burglary attempts targeting on-campus dorms.

On Sunday, a man tried to climb through an open window on the first floor of Saxon Residential Suites.

Campus police said the suspect immediately fled after he was startled by two UCLA students asleep in the room while attempting to get inside.

Two days earlier, a man entered a room through a window at Sunset Village Courtside Residential Plaza. Police said he fled through the front door after waking the students asleep inside.

UCLA student Allison Sanders, 19, learned of the warnings Tuesday night.

"That's really, really frightening," said Sanders, who has lived in Sunset Village for two years and will return in the fall. She lives on the second floor.

Though she said she feels pretty safe being on campus, she said she will be more vigilant due to the alerts.

Campus police said both instances were crimes of opportunity. No one has been hurt and no property stolen in the attempted burglaries.

Students are encouraged to keep their doors and windows closed.
