HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A man was taken to a local hospital Tuesday after nearly drowning at Hollywood gym.

Paramedics were sent to LA Fitness gym, 1628 N. El Centro Ave., at 9:47 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.

“I walked outside and there were two ladies screaming in the swimming pool, and I saw an old man kind of floating so I dove in and retrieved him,” Scott Berton said.

Berton said he administered CPR until authorities arrived.

The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
