1 Dead, 1 Wounded Injured In Santa Monica Shooting

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A shooting in a Santa Monica alley left one man dead and another wounded, authorities said.

Officials responded to a call at 8:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue, near 15th Street, Santa Monica police said.

The armed suspect allegedly approached the victims, who were in their late 20s or early 30s, in an alley and opened fire, police said.

"The suspect had walked up, fired multiple rounds and ran back to a vehicle," Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

"First thing I see is two bodies on the ground, two males, both shot," witness Cesar Prado said.

The victims were transported to a local hospital where they underwent surgery. One man later died, the condition the other victim remains unknown.

The gunman was last seen fleeing the scene in a royal blue Infiniti driven by another suspect.

The motive for the shooting was unknown.

The location of the incident was approximately a half mile from Santa Monica College where a shooting occurred Friday.

No school lockdowns were ordered.
