Father, Son Drown While Attempting To Fix Pool In Piru

PIRU (CBSLA.com) — Two men died over the weekend after a drowning accident in Ventura County, authorities announced Monday.

The Ventura County Fire Department Saturday responded to a call at a residence in the 3700 block of Howe Road in Piru.

Medical officials attempted lifesaving efforts on both men, but one victim, 79-year-old Ramon Alvarez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alvarez's son, 37-year-old Nelson Alvarez, was transported in cardiac arrest via helicopter to Los Robles Hospital, where he later died.

A preliminary investigation shows the victims drowned while attempting to repair the pool mechanisms, officials said.

A further investigation to determine the cause of death will be conducted by the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.
