Obama Fundraiser Just 3 Miles From College Shooting

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — President Obama Friday attended a fundraising event in Santa Monica, just blocks away from a shooting on the campus of Santa Monica College.

Shots were fired just three miles from Obama's event.

The fundraiser was the first of the President's two planned stops in the Southland. The President was also slated to visit the Sunnylands estate in Rancho Mirage to meet with the President Xi Jinping of China.

Secret Service officials were informed of the shooting and Obama's method of travel back to LAX was altered.

He took a motorcade directly from the fundraiser as opposed to returning to Santa Monica Airport. He departed from LAX just after 2:40 p.m.

Administration officials said Obama and Xi planned to discuss North Korea's nuclear program and Chinese cyber-attacks on American corporate and national security targets.
