LA County Park Worker Arrested For Committing Lewd Acts On Children

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles County park worker has been arrested for committing lewd acts on children under the age of 15, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Sixty-two-year-old Donald Johnson was taken into custody Wednesday after sources say a fellow park employee found a SIM card from a cell phone at the Ted Watkins Memorial Park near Watts, where Johnson has worked for four decades.

The SIM card allegedly showed video of Johnson kissing and licking the feet of at least four young girls.

Deputies believe the crimes occurred at the park where Johnson is employed.

He is currently on unpaid leave and remains in jail on $250,000 bail.

LA County Parks and Recreation Director Russ Guiney said Johnson was a recreational leader who led sports teams and games and had one-on-one access with children.

"I am shocked and appalled. I have had my kids in recreation programs. I have had my kids go to summer day camps. And as a parent I am concerned... I'm shocked that we have an employee that allegedly has behaved this way," Guiney said.

CBS2's Kristine Lazar spoke to parents who bring their children to the park.

"It is disgusting. It is despicable," one father said.

Another warned parents and caretakers to never be too careful.

"People have to be vigilant and watch their children," another woman said.

Johnson's arraignment is scheduled for Friday.

Authorities urge any additional victims and witnesses to contact Sgt. Richard Ruiz of the LASD's Special Victims Bureau at (877) 710-5273.
