Truck Driver Arrested After Alleged Road Rage Attack On 405 Freeway In Huntington Beach

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA.com) —A 40-year-old big-rig truck driver was arrested Tuesday after an alleged road rage attack on the 405 Freeway in Huntington Beach.

Denny Saavedra was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and throwing an object at a vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ray Payton. He remains jailed on $25,000 bail.

Richard Brun, a resident of Laguna Beach, called emergency dispatchers around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported that a truck driver threw what appeared to be a glass bottle at his vehicle while they were driving south on the San Gabriel (605) Freeway.

Brun was asked to pull over and wait for authorities, but he kept following the truck.

"My whole objective was to make sure the police got this guy for fear of him doing this to somebody else," he said.

Saavedra and Brun then stopped on the side of the southbound 405 Freeway at Beach Boulevard, got out of their vehicles and started hitting each other.

Saavedra was taken into custody because he reportedly got out of his truck with a metal pipe in his hand, said Payton.

The entire altercation was captured on cellphone video by another motorist.
