Acupuncturist Pleads Not Guilty To Medicare Fraud

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An acupuncturist accused of submitting more than $2 million in false claims to Medicare pleaded not guilty in federal court Monday.

Won Suk Lee, 44, is charged with using a physical therapy clinic as a front to bill for services not covered by Medicare, including acupuncture and massage.

Lee owned medical clinics in Huntington Park and is alleged to have billed Medicare for $2.1 million in false claims, according to an indictment filed in Los Angeles federal court.

The indictment said he received an estimated $1.2 million from the federal program.

After a warrant was issued for his arrest last year, Lee traveled to South Korea.

Authorities arrested him Saturday at Los Angeles International Airport.

A trial date was set for July 30.
