Charges Not Dropped In USC Party Arrests

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Despite earlier media reports, charges have not been dropped against six USC students arrested earlier this month at a party, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said Thursday.

"Fred Dorton who represents the six USC students spoke to news agencies this afternoon and conveyed the impression that the case against his clients had been dropped. This is not true," the City Attorney's Office said in a press release.

Some students claim that the LAPD treated minority students unfairly when responding to a noise complaint, while a party across the street attended mostly by white students was undisturbed.

Police say they were attacked by the students, who allegedly threw beer bottles at police, prompting them to return in riot gear.

"No decision has been made on filing the case," the statement reads. "The City Attorney's Office is gathering evidence and the case is under review."
